What to Expect

Morning leave for Udawalawa (Four hours drive and recommended departure time from Colombo 07.00 a.m.). Your English-speaking birding guide will meet you there. Bring sufficient water for the hike, and don’t forget your binoculars. If you are a photography enthusiast, it would also be a good idea to bring your camera with the flash disabled.

Lunch at hotel near National park. Subsequently an afternoon visit to Udawalawa National Park on jeeps, the park consists of dry grassland, scrub and forest, looking for open country and grassland birds including some endemics and also butterflies, Asian Elephant and other forest mammals, and other wildlife.

Additional Note

Comfortable clothing. Hardy hiking shoes appropriate for trudging in mud. A wide-brimmed hat or billed cap to keep off the sun.
